On Friday 19, 2009 Apple released it's newest iPhone, the iPhone 3G S. Several hundreds of customers lined up in front of Apple's flagship stores in San Francisco and New York to get it.
The iPhone 3G S looks the same as the iPhone 3G. The improvements are related to it's component. Apple issued a faster CPU (doubling it's speed), an internal compass, double the storage capabilities (from 8GM and 16GB to 16GB and 32GB), a better camera (from 1.3MB to 3MB), voice controls, a search bar, video recording and a movie editor. It also comes with the new Operating System, the version 3.0, also available to previous iPhone versions.
Apple keeps selling the iPhone 3G with a discount of $100, to rival with the BlackBerry.
The BlackBerry still offers way more flash memory than the iPhone. However, other factors like a big screen and way more applications makes the iPhone a more interesting option. The BlackBerry has over 1 800 applications, while the iPhone has over 50 000 applications.
The OS 3.0 increased is the user capabilities, by adding a cut, copy and paste editor, a landscape keyboard, a text messenger that can send along video and audio files and contact information, a voice memo application, an improved calendar, the options of buying video files and audiobook from the Apple's store, an improved stock application, a faster internet browser, a stereo Bluetooth, an internet tethering (using the iPhone Internet network to provide a WiFi network to a computer), to synchronize notes with a computer, a parental control, the option to login in different iTunes accounts, a user login into YouTube, a shake function to shuffle music, new languages, an iPhone locator combined with a remote wipe option, a play peer-to-peer games with another iPhone. Several other minors improvements were also made.
It is known that the sales of iPhones increased the sales of Mac computers. Apple will be releasing soon a new version of it's Mac's Operating System: Snow Leopard.
Apple's stock gained 2.65% of it's value this Friday and will more than likely continue to gain value, as the customers' passion for Apple products continue to gain popularity. Apple is popular stock among investors.
In regards to Research and Motion, they presented their quarterly results on Friday, the same day Apple introduced the iPhone 3G S. The decreased in sales of BlackBerry combined with the success of the iPhone 3G S affected the stock, that lost 4.92% of it's value this Friday.
